Unleashing the Power of CBD!

CBD, a non-psychoactive compound derived from the cannabis plant, has gained attention for its many potential therapeutic benefits. In this article, we’ll explore how CBD can help improve your workouts, aid in faster recovery, and contribute to your overall fitness goals.

By Greg Montoya

Physical fitness and well-being have become significant priorities for many people, and finding ways to optimize workouts and enhance recovery has become increasingly important.

One emerging trend in the fitness world is the use of CBD (cannabidiol) as a natural supplement to support and enhance exercise routines.

Reducing Exercise-Induced Inflammation

Intense workouts can lead to inflammation and oxidative stress within the body, which can impede recovery and increase the risk of injury. CBD has shown promise in reducing exercise-induced inflammation by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system.

By activating certain receptors, CBD may help modulate immune responses and minimize inflammation, promoting faster recovery and reducing post-workout discomfort.

Engaging in regular physical activity often comes with a certain degree of muscle soreness and discomfort. CBD’s pain relieving properties can be beneficial in managing exercise related pain. It interacts with receptors in the endocannabinoid system, helping to reduce pain perception and promoting a sense of relief and well-being.

Also, incorporating CBD into your post-workout routine may help ease muscle soreness, allowing you to recover more quickly in preparation for your next workout.

Enhancing Relaxation and Sleep Quality

Rest and recovery are vital components of any fitness regimen. Adequate sleep is crucial for muscle repair and growth, and CBD has been shown to help with better sleep quality. CBD has also been reported to have relaxing properties and may help alleviate anxiety, stress, and insomnia.

By improving sleep, CBD can support overall well-being and help ensure you wake up refreshed and ready for your next workout.

Managing Stress and Anxiety

Stress and anxiety can significantly impact your workout performance and overall fitness goals. CBD has been studied for its anti-anxiety properties, potentially reducing stress and overall anxiety levels.

By interacting with receptors in the brain associated with mood regulation, many have reported that CBD has helped promote a calm state-of-mind, allowing you to better focus and perform during your workouts.

Balancing Energy and Focus

CBD’s influence on the endocannabinoid system may also play a role in enhancing focus and mental clarity. By supporting the balance of neurotransmitters, CBD can help regulate energy levels, promoting a calm and focused mindset during workouts.

Maintaining mental clarity is crucial for executing proper exercise form, intensity, and concentration, leading to better physical performance.

It’s Never Too Late to Start Enhancing Your Workouts!

CBD has the potential to revolutionize how we approach workouts and recovery. As a natural supplement, CBD offers a range of many potential benefits including:

  • Reducing inflammation
  • Alleviating exercise-related pain
  • Promoting relaxation
  • Better sleep
  • Managing stress and anxiety
  • Enhancing energy and focus

How CBD Might Affect Your Work Out

CBD and Working Out

*Note: Although we are not aware of any serious side effects of using CBD, if you are currently taking any prescriptions, such as anticonvulsants, including diazepam, lamotrigine, and phenytoin; or sedative drugs including barbiturates like phenobarbital and hexobarbital; or narcotics such as codeine and morphine, it’s advisable to consult with a healthcare professional before incorporating CBD, or any new supplement into your daily routine.

If You Only Had A Brain that Could Focus…

Brain fog is REAL! You’ll recognize it by your difficulty in focusing, forgetfulness, a feeling of confusion or lack of mental clarity. It’s caused by stress, lack of sleep, and even a number of medical conditions.

It can significantly impact your daily life, affecting work, relationships, and overall well-being. In recent years, CBD has emerged as a potential supplement option for brain fog.

This article will explore how CBD can help you if you are suffering from this debilitating condition.

What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a compound found in the cannabis plant. Unlike THC, another compound found in cannabis, CBD does not have psychoactive effects. This means that it does not cause a “high” and it’s not addictive. CBD has been studied for its potential therapeutic effects, including its ability to reduce brain fog, inflammation, anxiety, and pain.

How CBD Can Help

CBD has been shown to have neuroprotective effects. So, it can help protect the brain from damage caused by inflammation and other factors. Note, Inflammation in the brain has been linked to cognitive decline and brain fog. So, reducing inflammation can help improve cognitive function.

CBD has also been shown to have anxiolytic effects, potentially helping to reduce anxiety. Anxiety can also be a major contributor to brain fog, as it can interfere with concentration and focus. By reducing anxiety, CBD may help improve mental clarity.

In addition, CBD has been shown to improve sleep quality. Lack of sleep is another common cause of brain fog, as it can interfere with cognitive function and memory. By improving sleep quality, CBD may help reduce brain fog.

Finally, CBD has been shown to have antioxidant effects, and can help protect cells from damage caused by free radicals. Free radicals can contribute to cognitive decline and brain fog, so reducing their damage may help improve cognitive function.

Studies on CBD and Brain Fog

Based on the current research, there is compelling evidence to suggest that it may be highly beneficial. A 2020 study published in the Journal of Clinical Psychology found that CBD improved sleep and reduced anxiety in patients with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), which could help improve cognitive function.

Another study published in the Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease in 2021 found that CBD reduced inflammation and improved cognitive function in mice with Alzheimer’s disease. While this study was conducted on mice, it suggests that CBD may have similar effects in humans.

Conclusion…

Brain fog can have a significant impact on the overall quality of your life and can limit your daily production, and even affect your personal relationships. Why not give CBD a try and see for yourself why many others are raving about how it has helped get rid of this, and get their focus and quality of life back.

Brain Fog – 6 Reason Why CBD Can Help

How Cannabidiol Can Help Alleviate Depression Symptoms

Depression is a debilitating mental health condition that affects millions of people worldwide. While there are various treatments available for depression, many people are seeking natural alternatives to alleviate symptoms. One potential natural remedy that has gained attention in recent years is cannabidiol, also known as CBD.

by Greg Montoya

CBD is a non-psychoactive compound found in the cannabis plant. It interacts with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the body. This helps regulate mood, appetite, sleep, and pain, among other bodily functions. Research suggests that CBD may have anti-depressant and anti-anxiety effects, making it a promising natural treatment option for people with depression.

In this short article, we’ll explore how CBD works to alleviate symptoms of depression, its potential benefits, and important considerations to keep in mind when using CBD for depression.

How Does CBD Help Alleviate Symptoms of Depression?

CBD is shown to interact with various receptors in the brain, including serotonin. These play a crucial role in regulating mood, anxiety, and depression. In a 2016 study published in the journal, Neuropharmacology, researchers found that CBD can increase serotonin levels in the brain by activating 5-HT1A receptors, leading to anti-depressant effects. The study suggests that CBD may be a viable option for treating depression. Especially, for people who do not respond well to traditional anti-depressant medications.

newyou cbd depression1

CBD Has Also Been Shown to Have Anti-anxiety Effects

A 2015 study published in the journal, Neurotherapeutics, found that CBD may help reduce symptoms of anxiety disorders. These include social anxiety disorder and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Anxiety and depression often co-occur, and CBD’s ability to alleviate anxiety symptoms may help reduce symptoms of depression as well.

Additionally, CBD has anti-inflammatory properties, which are beneficial for people with depression. Chronic inflammation is linked to depression, and CBD’s ability to reduce inflammation can help alleviate depressive symptoms. A 2019 study published in the journal, Pain, found that CBD can reduce pain and inflammation in a neuropathic pain model.

Potential Benefits of CBD for Depression

  • Alleviates Symptoms of Depression and Anxiety: CBD is shown to have anti-depressant and anti-anxiety effects, making it a potential natural treatment option for people with depression and anxiety disorders.
  • Reduces Inflammation: CBD has anti-inflammatory properties, which are beneficial for people with depression, as chronic inflammation has been linked to the condition.
  • No Psychoactive Effects: Unlike tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the compound in cannabis that causes psychoactive effects, CBD does not cause a “high.” This makes it a safe option for people who want to use cannabis for therapeutic purposes without experiencing psychoactive effects.

Important Considerations When Using CBD for Depression

Quality of CBD Products: Not all CBD products are created equal. It’s essential to choose high-quality CBD products from reputable sources to ensure safety and effectiveness…

NEWYOU is a world leader in the space of CBD and provides the world’s first NANO-AMPLIFIED, water soluble CBD for maximum absorption and benefits. This is a very important consideration as standard CBD oil tinctures are much harder to absorb in the body. This is due to the larger particle size and the need to be broken down by the liver. NEWYOU’s Nana-Amplified CBD solves this problem. As a result, this provides you with a superior product that does not need to pass through the liver in order to be absorbed.

Dosage: There is no one-size-fits-all dosage for CBD, and the optimal dosage may vary based on the individual’s weight, age, and other factors. It’s important to start with a low dosage and gradually increase it until the desired effects are achieved.

Final Thoughts

CBD shows much promise as a natural treatment option for depression, including anti-depressant, anti-anxiety, and anti-inflammatory properties.

If you are looking for a possible natural solution to your depression, CBD may be a viable option for you to consider…

CBD Is Your All-Natural Solution for Chronic Pain & Inflammation Relief

by Greg Montoya

Chronic pain affects millions worldwide and managing it can be challenging.

Unfortunately, conventional treatments may not always provide relief, and many have harsh side effects.

That’s why more and more people are turning to natural alternative therapies like CBD (cannabidiol), a non-psychoactive compound found in cannabis:

  • CBD has gained popularity for its reported benefits in pain relief, particularly for chronic pain conditions like arthritis, neuropathic pain, and fibromyalgia.
  • CBD has also shown promise in reducing inflammation and some studies even suggest it may even have anti-cancer properties.

This article will explore some of the evidence behind CBD’s pain relieving and anti-inflammatory effects, and its potential use in helping with various chronic pain conditions…

CBD for Chronic Pain Relief and Management

It works by interacting with the endocannabinoid system (ECS) in the body. This helps regulate many physiological functions, including pain perception, inflammation, and immune response. Also, CBD modulates the activity of the ECS receptors, leading to pain relief and reduced inflammation.

Several studies have shown that CBD can effectively manage chronic pain, including neuropathic and fibromyalgia pain.  A 2019 review of studies on CBD for chronic pain found that CBD reduced pain and improved sleep quality in patients with chronic pain conditions. Another study published in 2018 found that CBD reduced pain in patients with fibromyalgia.

CBD for Arthritis Pain Relief

Arthritis is a common chronic pain condition characterized by joint pain and inflammation. CBD may help relieve arthritis pain by reducing inflammation and modulating the immune response. A 2017 study referenced in the National Library of Medicine on CBD for arthritis pain found that CBD reduced joint pain and inflammation in rats with arthritis.

A more recent study published in 2020 found that CBD, when combined with other cannabinoids, effectively reduced pain and improved physical function in patients with osteoarthritis.

CBD for Cancer Treatment-Related Pain Relief

Chemotherapy and radiation can be tough on the body, causing pain, nausea, and other unpleasant symptoms. CBD can help relieve the pain and discomfort related to these cancer treatments and improve the quality of life for patients.

CBD may also have anti-cancer properties. A 2019 study found that CBD may enhance the activity of chemotherapy drugs and reduce cancer cell growth in mice.

Migraine Relief

CBD may also help relieve migraine headaches, often accompanied by inflammation and pain. A 2018 study published in the journal PHARMACOTHERAPY on CBD for migraine relief found that CBD successfully reduced migraine frequency and severity in some cases.

The Bottom Line Is…

CBD is an exciting and promising option for those seeking natural solutions for chronic pain and inflammation relief.* As more research is conducted, we will undoubtedly learn more about the full extent of its benefits. In the meantime, it’s clear that many people have already found relief through CBD use. It’s definitely worth exploring as a possible solution for YOU, too.

So, if you’re struggling with chronic pain, consider CBD as a possible option. With its natural origins and virtually no side effects, CBD could provide the fast and ongoing relief you’ve been looking for.

*If you’re taking prescription medication for a medical condition, it’s important to consult with your healthcare professional first.

In recent years, CBD has become a popular topic of discussion. Researchers have explored its potential benefits for various health conditions. One emerging area of interest is in CBD and it’s potential to promote longevity and healthy aging.

By Greg Montoya

A recent study conducted with Zebrafish provides exciting news for the scientific community. It suggests that CBD may have potential therapeutic benefits for a variety of conditions. The research indicates that the cannabinoid could help protect against neurodegenerative diseases. These include Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, as well as anxiety, depression, and inflammation.

CBD Can Help Reduce Neuron Death by 85%

Researchers from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil tested the ability of cannabidiol (CBD) to protect Zebrafish neurons from oxidative damage caused by free radicals. The researchers tested a small dose of CBD on the neurons of the fish and observed a significant protective effect. The CBD seemed to block the action of the harmful free radicals, protecting the neurons from damage and reducing their death by up to 85%.

Studies Reveal “Therapeutic Effectiveness” of CBD

Additionally, the team noted that their results were similar to those seen in studies conducted with mice and other animal species.  They concluded that the findings of their study supported the “therapeutic effectiveness” of CBD and suggested further investigations into its potential applications. The results of this study are exciting and may provide a better understanding of how CBD works within the human body.

As more research is conducted with Zebrafish, scientists may be able to uncover more potential therapeutic benefits of CBD, which could prove to be a valuable natural treatment option.

Other Studies and Research Results for CBD and Longevity…

Following are more details regarding some of the potential benefits of CBD for promoting longevity and healthy aging. These are based on additional scientific studies and research.

1 – Reduced Inflammation

One of the main ways CBD may promote longevity is by reducing inflammation.  Inflammation is a natural response to injury or infection, but chronic inflammation can contribute to a range of health conditions, including arthritis, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s.

Research indicates that CBD may help reduce inflammation by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which is involved in regulating immune system function, pain perception, and inflammation.

For example, a 2015 study published in the journal Bioorganic and Medicinal Chemistry found that CBD reduced inflammation in the brains of mice with neuroinflammation.

NEWYOU cbd longevity 2

2 – Prevention of Oxidative Stress

Oxidative stress is another factor that can contribute to aging and age-related diseases. It occurs when there is an imbalance between free radicals which are produced naturally in the body, and antioxidants, which neutralize free radicals.

Research suggests that CBD may help protect against oxidative stress by acting as an antioxidant. In a 2011 study published in the journal Free Radical Biology and Medicine, researchers found that CBD had potent antioxidant properties and was able to protect against oxidative damage in neurons.

3 – Improved Sleep Quality

Sleep is essential for good health, and research suggests that it may play a role in promoting longevity. CBD may be beneficial for improving sleep quality, which could contribute to better overall health and a longer lifespan.

A study published in the Journal of Clinical Sleep Medicine learned that CBD improved sleep in people suffering from chronic pain. Another study published in the journal Medicines in 2019 discovered that CBD improved the sleep quality of participants with anxiety.

While more research is needed to fully understand the benefits of CBD for promoting longevity, it’s obvious that CBD has tremendous healing potential.*

*If you’re considering making CBD a part of your healthy lifestyle plan, it’s important to consult with your healthcare professional first, especially if you’re taking medication or have a medical condition.

CBD and THC come from the same plant, cannabis. This is a very special and unique plant that has been used for thousands of years for its medicinal properties. Cannabinoids, the active ingredients in cannabis, are responsible for the plant’s therapeutic effects. These compounds interact with the body’s endocannabinoid system, which involves several physiological processes, including pain management, inflammation, appetite, and mood.

by Greg Montoya

CBD and THC are two of the most well-known and researched compounds in the cannabis plant. CBD is an important cannabinoid known for its medical benefits; while THC is the cannabinoid responsible for the “high” that people experience when they use cannabis – THC is also very effective in  helping with many medical conditions.

And combining CBD with THC creates synergistic advantages that can be very effective in helping to combat the effects of various medical conditions. These include for example: pain, multiple sclerosis, seizures, and sleep disorders.

Benefits of CBD

CBD offers a vast variety of health benefits, including reducing anxiety, relieving pain, and improving sleep. CBD oil is thought to work by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system; which regulates a number of functions that include:

  • Sleep
  • Appetite
  • Pain
  • Reduced symptoms of PTSD
  • Immune system response
  • And More!

It also has shown to potentially help with conditions like Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases.

Benefits of THC

THC is the primary psychoactive component of cannabis which can help address a variety of conditions that include:

  • Pain
  • Nausea
  • Muscle spasms
  • Appetite loss

Other potential benefits of THC include its ability to relieve fatigue, improve sleep, and reduce anxiety.

9 Advantages of Combining These 2 Cannabinoids

By interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system, CBD and THC have shown to work together to reduce inflammation. The combination of these 2 cannabinoids is even more effective in treating certain medical conditions than either compound alone.

CBD helps to offset the psychoactive effects of THC, while THC enhances the medicinal properties of CBD. This powerful combination provides a versatile and potent tool for natural healing; a one-two punch for various conditions and ailments, including the following:

1) Pain Relief

A study in 2016 found that the combination was much more effective in reducing pain than either compound alone. The mixture effectively helps with several chronic pain conditions, including arthritis, multiple sclerosis, and fibromyalgia.

2) Nausea

The effects of THC on nausea are well-documented. Combining THC with CBD is highly effective for eliminating nausea, even when other medications have failed. The combination is especially effective in reducing nausea and vomiting in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.

3) Anxiety

CBD is a non-psychoactive compound that is known for its anxiety-reducing benefit. THC is the psychoactive compound in cannabis that gives users the feeling of being high. When these two compounds are combined, they create a synergistic effect that has been shown to work well for anxiety relief.

4) Appetite Control

The combination is a great aid for appetite control. Cannabis is well-known for its ability to increase appetite. This ability is primarily due to the presence of THC, which binds to the CB1 receptors in the brain and stimulates appetite.

However, THC in higher dosages can also cause anxiety and paranoia, which can offset the positive effects of increased appetite. CBD, on the other hand, does not bind to CB1 receptors and does not stimulate appetite. However, CBD has been shown to reduce anxiety and improve mood, which can enhance the positive effects of THC and help offset any adverse effects. Together, they can help you get the benefits of appetite control without the negative consequences.

5) Improved Sleep

When used together, they can produce potent sedative effects that can improve sleep and help treat insomnia. It has been reported that the CBD and THC combination provides less daytime sleepiness. CBD with THC can also improve sleep quality by interacting with the body’s endocannabinoid system.

6) Healthy Gut

CBD promotes the growth of beneficial gut bacteria, while THC has been shown to reduce inflammation. Combined they offer a unique solution for restoring and maintaining a healthy gut.

7) Reduced Stress and Anxiety

CBD and THC can effectively reduce stress and improve human cognition. This combination is the most effective for stress relief.

8) Help Reduce Seizure Frequency & Severity

It may help reduce seizure frequency and severity in people with treatment-resistant epilepsy.  THC with CBD is not a cure for epilepsy, but anecdotally it has been shown to help some people manage their condition.

9) Improves Quality of Life

CBD with THC have a synergistic effect that enhances the medicinal properties of both compounds. Ultimately, together, CBD and THC can encourage a happier and healthier life by reducing anxiety, improving sleep, controlling pain, and stimulating appetite.

With all these benefits, why not consider testing these combined cannabinoids to see if they can help improve your mood, well-being, and quality of life?

A Good Place to Start Experiencing all These Benefits…

When used together “responsibly” both CBD and THC can be safe and effective. If you are interested in trying the CBD/THC combination, there are several options, including:

  • Oils
  • Tinctures
  • Edibles
  • Topicals
  • Capsules
  • And More!

In addition to the CBD that you may already be taking, consider optionally adding trying NEWYOU’s Delta-8 THC gummies (derived from legal hemp).*

These specially formulated gummies have been nano-amplified for maximum absorption, and then infused into carefully selected Organic Ingredients…

Check it out below to see if you can benefit from any of the many advantages that this special cannabinoid has to offer when combined with CBD!

*A Note About Potential ABUSE…

In closing, as with any type of substance that provides these types of benefits, there are always those who may think that more is better. So, it’s important to keep in mind that everything we consume (e.g., vitamins, minerals, and even water) has a tolerance.

For example, we are told that a glass of wine is good for us due to its antioxidant properties. This is true to some degree. However, drinking the whole bottle in one sitting is counter productive… Similar applies to THC.

That said, we recommend that if you decide to add THC to your CBD protocol, start responsibly by micro-dosing at first. Then adjust your dosage up or down depending on your own individual results. Also, we do not recommend driving or operating machinery when using any type of THC.

The Entourage Effect

The Difference

Benefits of Them Together

The SIMPLE answer is… IT WORKS!

Thanks to CBD proponents, this amazing plant compound is coming out of the shadows and into the mainstream for pro athletes to benefit from. Our very own NEWYOU CBD Experts have worked extensively with NFL Retired Players’ Association and others. This is in an effort to help them better understand the role CBD can play not only in helping athletes regain their health, but also perform at their optimal level.

Now, current and former pro athletes in multiple sports have even founded organizations such as Athletes for Care that promote the use of CBD. Also they support further research in this area.

By Greg Montoya

The support behind CBD by pro athletes is massive and growing. Especially with continuing research into its benefits for pain management, inflammation and sleep; since the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) officially removed CBD from its list of banned substances in 2018.

The Human Body is Literally Hardwired for CBD

It’s no wonder, when you see the research coming out about the benefits of CBD and how it interacts with the body’s Endocannabinoid System (ECS). Just recently, German researchers have shown the brain’s ECS may also play a role in producing what’s called a “runner’s high.” This is not just from endorphins as was previously thought; it solidifies the fact that the human body’s ECS is literally hardwired for CBD.

NEWYOU PRO athletes football cbd

In a recent article in Men’s Health about the growing use of CBD by athletes, former NFL player Ryan VandenBussche recounted his life before CBD,

“We were given opiates by our team doctors. Looking back after years gone by, I’m surprised I’m still alive.”

Today, Ryan and others are on a CBD crusade. So, every athlete, professional or not, will have access to and understand the many benefits of CBD.

CBD Truly is a Blessing From God

Sometimes I have to pinch myself when I think about how blessed we are to live in a time where athletes can fully utilize CBD and receive all the benefits it offers… I only wish I had CBD products like DROPS or CB2 when I was in my martial arts, wrestling and boxing heyday. Thank God we now have access to this powerful healing plant derived molecule!

CBD a Game Changer: 2018 FIFA World Cup First to Allow CBD Use for Competing Athletes

newyou pro athletes soccer cbd

More and More Pro Athletes’ Organizations are Becoming Receptive to CBD

Times are changing as the 2018 FIFA World Cup becomes the first sporting event that allowed competing athletes to use CBD-based products. This comes in the wake of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) officially removing Cannabidiol, commonly known and sold as CBD, from its banned substances list.

CBD Will Not Get You High

CBD is a non-psychoactive component of the cannabis plant and is chemically different from THC… which means WADA can distinguish between the two substances when tested; WADA still bans THC.

Athletes, professional and weekend warriors alike, are heralding this change. Many suffer from ongoing joint inflammation and pain. Athletes say having more access to CBD-based products gives them more options when it comes to addressing these debilitating issues naturally instead of relying on pharmaceutical pain medications which often accompany many unwanted side effects. With the opioid problems looming, the news at the 2018 FIFA World Cup put a welcoming spotlight on CBD and its positive health benefits.

Ongoing Research on CBD is Very Promising

When it comes to assisting the body in managing and even reducing chronic pain, as well as supporting the ECS, the scientific community has noted that the ECS is the most important system within the body to maintain health and well-being.

A properly functioning ECS is essential to our health and well-being. Endocannabinoids and their receptors are found throughout the body. These include the:

  • Brain
  • Blood
  • Organs (e.g., pancreas and liver)
  • Connective tissue
  • Bones
  • Adipose tissues
  • Nervous system, and
  • Immune system

Not All CBD is Equal!

While CBD and Phytocannabinoid products are becoming more commonplace, not all are created equally. NEWYOU is proud to be the pioneer in the next generation of Full-Spectrum Phytocannabinoid and Cannabidiol innovations; putting NEWYOU ahead of the competition with our Canna-Actives™ and Nano-Amplified™ technology; making our products more effective and bioavailable per mg than other products on the market.

CBD & Your Immune System – Nothing To Sneeze At!

Research Shows CBD May be a Power Player in Defending the Immune System… Good News when it comes to using NEWYOU Products and Staying Healthy during the Flu, Cold and RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus Infection) Season!

by Greg Montoya

Whether it’s a flu, common cold or something more virulent like COVID-19, science is showing that it’s not always the virus that proves fatal. But, rather the body’s own immune response that produces the marked symptoms of infection.

Recently, NEWYOU’s Pualani Armstrong, a CBD Research and Development industry professional, answered some questions during an interview about the valuable role CBD plays when it comes to our Endocannabinoid and immune systems.

Wintertime Immune System Concerns!

The headlines in the news are often scary, very real and everyone should take precautions suggested by federal, state and local health authorities.

NEWYOU: We know every winter, people are always concerned about the next type of virus or flu, but it really begs the question:

  • Can CBD help optimize the immune system?
  • What does that look like as far as our health is concerned?
  • Before we dive into that can you take a few minutes to explain to us in layman’s terms how viruses work?

ARMSTRONG: Absolutely! Well, this is a very exciting time. There has been a lot of research coming out regarding the Endocannabinoid System, the immune system, cannabinoids and specifically, plant derived phytocannabinoids like CBD and their therapeutic potential against pathogens like viruses.

How Viruses Work & Your Immune System

It’s really helpful to understand how viruses work in the first place before we discuss our immune response and further how the Endocannabinoid system plays a role regarding your immune function.

Viruses are truly fascinating tiny life forms and they are one of, if not, the most abundant life forms on the planet. In fact, I recently learned that there are many more viruses than there are bacteria.

They are pretty much everywhere and are unavoidable. Viruses by themselves don’t have their own cellular bodies, so they’re kind of like little genetic syringes that contain their own DNA and they’re looking for a host cell that they can inject their DNA into in order to replicate, proliferate, and ultimately survive.

For some more virulent viruses like the Coronavirus this hostile takeover can actually happen very quickly inside the human body, and many times the rate of replication in the body can outpace the immune system’s response.

NEWYOU: We’ve heard that in many cases it’s not the virus itself that causes the most damage, but it’s actually our immune system’s response to the virus that results in the underlying health problems?

ARMSTRONG:  That’s correct. In many instances it’s our own body’s immune response that causes the potentially fatal secondary effects and the common symptoms of infection. Modern science is still trying to understand the many complexities of the immune system and immune response. We are starting to see that in addition to how quickly the virus can replicate versus how fast your body can respond there is another really important factor to consider when it comes to how you will be affected by a viral infection.

Importance of the Immune Response

It’s often the strength of the immune response that determines how well we will fare against a virus. So, of course, someone who already has a compromised immune system is going to be more susceptible to viral infection and secondary complications than someone whose immune system is functioning at optimal levels.

But whether or not you become really sick, deathly ill or simply get a tickle in your throat is very much determined by how fast your immune system can respond and to what extent.

Sometimes, however, the pathogen can actually trigger your own body’s immune response to be so destructive that in addition to going after unhealthy viral cells it actually starts to destroy healthy cells and healthy tissues which can lead to a lot of problems.

NEWYOU: What you’re saying here is that this could result in an autoimmune response by the body?

ARMSTRONG:  Yes, autoimmunity is when your own body starts attacking itself. When this happens the body really struggles to move into a state of healing. An overemphasized immune response is where things can really start to fall apart, especially when you come up against a really hostile virus like Coronavirus.

Of course, you want the full force of your immune system engaged; your T-cells, white blood cells and macrophages. But sometimes your immune system can actually overreact and incorrectly differentiate between the good cells and the bad cells.

It sounds like it’s important to manage the immune response, so it’s strong enough, but not too strong, when the body is confronted with a virus. Now, it’s important for people reading this to know that we now know that the immune system is regulated by the Endocannabinoid System. Some people may not be familiar with the Endocannabinoid System.

NEWYOU: Can you tell us a little bit about that and why it is vitally important as it relates to fighting off viruses like the Coronavirus and others?

ARMSTRONG: As far as discoveries go the Endocannabinoid System is a fairly new discovery. So, we are just now starting to see more and more research coming out that indicates how critical this particular regulatory system is.

Understanding The Endocannabinoid System

We’ve heard of the endocrine system and the immune system, etc., but the Endocannabinoid System (ECS) is what connects them all together and helps them talk so to speak. It regulates and balances many of the body’s core processes including the immune response, communication between cells, appetite, metabolism, memory,  pain, and more.

The ECS is based on cell signaling and communication. Throughout the body, we have specific receptor sites called CB1 and CB2 that respond directly to cannabinoids. These two receptor sites are found on many different types of cells throughout the body including immune cells.

What is Homeostasis?

When they meet, the cannabinoids and their receptors form what’s like a lock and key. Ultimately, the result is a cascade of processes that allows the body to maintain a state of homeostasis…a big fancy word that means balance.

Basically, the Endocannabinoid System exists to help regulate, oversee and make sure that all the other bodily processes and functions are happening as they’re supposed to. It ensures that your body is balanced and healthy.

Now, back to the immune response. You don’t want it to be too strong, or too weak…

This is where the Endocannabinoid System seems to come into play according to research. Our immune response has everything to do with how dangerous a virus will be to any person.  Viruses are eager to live and will do anything they can to survive. In some cases, will even turn off and override our own natural immune response, so that our immune system doesn’t respond the way it’s supposed to.

Don’t Make Your Body a Home for Viruses

In something like Coronavirus the virus actually makes its home in the lungs and respiratory tract, resulting in a ton of inflammation. Secondary complications in the form of respiratory illnesses as the body attempts to fight the infection. New research is showing that the Endocannabinoid System working together with the immune system is one of the many ways that our body can protect itself from viruses and other pathogens.

The body naturally produces endocannabinoids that bind to the CB1 and CB2 receptor sites located on immune cells. Fortunately for us, we are able to help boost the body’s natural store of cannabinoids by supplementing with phytocannabinoids or plant cannabinoids like CBD that can act just like your natural endocannabinoids do and engage the receptor sites on our immune cells.

NEWYOU: Please remind us again exactly how CBD works with the Endocannabinoid System to influence the immune system?

ARMSTRONG: Sure, earlier I mentioned that the Endocannabinoid System is all about maintaining balance. It’s really good at overseeing that communication between all the other systems in the body to know if something is out of balance, and if so it begins to modulate and bring everything back towards optimal balance and function.

Fighting a Viral Infection – Influence on the Immune System

When we’re fighting a viral infection, we really do want a very strong immune response so our body can respond quickly with its fighter cells. But, simultaneously you want to avoid an autoimmune response that is too strong that would result in killing healthy cells and quite possibly actually killing us in the process. The Endocannabinoid System makes sure this doesn’t happen.

New research is showing that CBD in particular is powerful in supporting immune function and specifically, can directly influence the immune system and promote antiviral activity by modulating immune responses helping to determine what is too strong of a response and what is too weak.

Controlling the Strength of the Immune Response is Critical!

Modulating is a fancy science word, but it really means the ability to influence or control the strength of the immune response. Like other adaptogens, CBD can work in either direction to help restore balance. It’s the reason why CBD and the Endocannabinoid System are so powerful when they are combined.

Inflammation is one of the clear signs of an immune response and we’re seeing with Coronavirus in particular that the inflammation of the respiratory passages is especially dangerous and possibly fatal. CBD can help the Endocannabinoid and immune systems work together to deliver the proper immune response thus helping to control dangerous inflammation levels. This is really a key piece of information especially when it comes to fighting dangerous pathogens.

Inflammation is Directly Related to Disease and the Immune Response

You mentioned inflammation. Most people are familiar with inflammation and have heard that inflammation is a precursor to many disease states.

NEWYOU: Does CBD’s ability to target inflammation help it determine what is a sufficient amount for the immune system?

ARMSTRONG: Many of us live with high levels of subchronic inflammation simply due to our diet, environment or lifestyle and that can be really taxing on our immune systems. To help people understand inflammation a little better I like to use a visual…

I grew up in the Virgin Islands where I was out in the sun most of the time. I’m very fair skinned and prone to getting a sunburn. A sunburn is a visible example of an inflammatory immune response. When you get too much sun your body is triggered to have an immune response to deal with the damaged cells and that immune response is the inflammation you see and feel in the form of heat, pain, and redness. Sometimes, there’s even the peeling of the skin, which means that those cells were specifically targeted and killed by programmed cell death because they were not healthy enough to live properly. This is your body’s way of saying that there was significant cellular damage.

CBD, Inflammation & Your Immune System

What’s so special about CBD  and inflammation is that because it is able to modulate the immune system and immune response it is also an incredibly powerful anti-inflammatory agent. It’s also really special because unlike other chemicals and drugs, CBD has the ability to work in two directions, to upregulate or downregulate other processes as necessary making it super responsive to the needs of the body.

This means that you’re not going to fully see CBD working in a linear fashion like you can with traditional pain-relieving anti-inflammatory agents. Because it lessens the effects of something or increases something, it can turn one process off or it can turn something on. It’s always sort of fluctuating in between to find that state of balance.

What the research is showing is that CBD is basically coordinating all these other cellular processes. Meaning that it’s adaptive

NEWYOU: So what you’re saying is everybody’s experience with CBD may differ because it’s so adaptive.

ARMSTRONG: Anecdotally, that’s what we are seeing. Depending on your age, or the disease or condition you’re trying to  help with CBD, responses can vary from person to person. I think the most important thing to remember is that one of CBD’s greatest features is its ability to restore balance.

Balance, or homeostasis, is unique to every single person and their own body’s needs and that determines the effect CBD will have. We found some amazing snippets of research that actually showed how differently the effects of CBD can be depending on what imbalance was.

CBD Effect on Cells

For example, when they introduced CBD to a healthy cell with low levels of inflammation the CBD didn’t really seem to do much to the inflammation levels, which is what you would expect. The cell was healthy and there wasn’t much inflammation. Then they introduced CBD to a healthy cell that had high levels of inflammation and the result was a reduction in the inflammation and the CBD had a very strong immune suppressive effect.

Finally, they took a cancer cell and introduced it to CBD and the results were actually increased inflammation, which seems counterintuitive but since inflammation is an immune response it means that the CBD was signaling to the immune system to respond in a more pronounced way. Which is pretty amazing because it shows how adaptogenic CBD can actually be.

But in general, when it comes to an immune response, CBD is actually very calming which is why it has such a profound anti-inflammatory effect. It is really going to kind of calm down and tone down the immune system.

newyou man sick immune system

NEWYOU: Besides helping to manage the immune response is there any other way CBD works with the immune system?

ARMSTRONG: The immune System is very complex, evolving over many years to handle new bugs, pathogens and foreign Invaders. While there’s still a lot of research that needs to be done concerning the Endocannabinoid System, immune function and CBD, we are seeing a lot of promise concerning the CBD’s effects on the immune system specifically when it comes to pathogens like viruses.

Unhealthy Infected Cells

What’s really interesting is that CBD appears to be able to selectively trigger cell death for unhealthy infected cells while leaving healthy cells alone. That is really profound because a lot of chemicals and drugs out there are kind of working on everything, so it’s just completely scorched earth. They get rid of everything.

It also appears that CBD can increase certain immune signaling molecules or decrease the secretion of these immune signaling molecules. If you need a more profound immune response, it can actually regulate how the cells are sending these sorts of chemical signals to each other.

Overally, the key to optimal immune function depends on maintaining a healthy Endocannabinoid system and the best thing we can do to guard ourselves against things like Coronavirus or common flus, colds or nasty bugs is to support our bodies by supplementing with vital phytocannabinoids like CBD.

One thing we can say for certain is that CBD definitely has a profound impact on the immune system and the research looks very promising. I only expect that we’re going to be hearing more about its positive benefits with each passing year.

It’s Time to Give Some Healthy Props to Hops

Hops is actually a healthy botanical “cousin” to Cannabis.

Yet despite no other plant being as closely related to Cannabis as Hops, Cannabis has been the illegal black sheep of the family, while Hops has been the darling of the two as a key ingredient in beer brewing.

by Greg Montoya

The benefits of Hops are numerous. Here’s a few examples:

1) Helps Protect The Brain – Hops is rich in flavonoids, Xanthohumol (XN) being one of the most abundant. Increasing XN can dramatically help with neuroinflammation and can help slow down aging of the brain. It can also help with neuroinflammation due to its binding to GABA-A receptors and stabilization of calcium levels in the brain.

2) Helps Reduce Anxiety – Separately of GABA activity, XN can calm anxiety by inhibiting glutamic acid decarboxylase. For example, a 4 week clinical study using Hops supplementation showed a reduction in depression, anxiety and stress symptoms.

3) Helps Reduce Insomnia – Hops can help with insomnia by enhancing circadian rhythms. By stimulating melatonin receptors, Hops can help reduce body temperature, helping improve sleep.

4) Helps Reduce Obesity – XN can inhibit adipogenesis (increase fat cell death) and as a result can be helpful in preventing obesity. For example, in animal models being fed a high-fat diet with hop extract, XN showed a reduction in weight gain. XN has also shown to curb overeating, as well as reducing the accumulation of white fat.

5) Improves Mitochondrial Function – By reducing oxidative stress on the mitochondria, XN can stimulate mitochondrial function and metabolism.

6) Helps Control Diabetes – XN enhances the metabolism of glucose and uptake of glucose into cells. For example, in obese mice XN supplementation in high doses could reduce weight and increase glucose metabolism. By acting on the farnesoid X receptor (FXR), XN can even help prevent diabetes.

7) Enhances The Vascular System – Higher HDL cholesterol levels are associated with lower risks of cardiovascular disease, such as atherosclerosis. By inhibiting cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) and enhancing apolipoprotein E (ApoE) activity, XN may be able to increase HDL levels. For example, in Western-type diet-fed ApoE-deficient mice, XN was able to reduce plaque formation.

8) Protects The Gut – Hops can help to protects the gut. Tetrahydro iso-Alpha Acids (THIAA, which is found in Hops) can even help prevent leaky gut by increasing zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1) and occludin, two key tight junctions proteins.

9) Supports The Liver – Hops may help protect the liver from developing Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. Hops can protect the liver from oxidative stress and oxygen-deprived damage. XN inhibits the synthesis of triglycerides in the liver. It also produces some of its benefits on cholesterol synthesis in the liver by its ability to bind to the liver X receptor. This can also reduce liver scarring in animal models of Type 1 diabetes.

10) Improves Kidney Function – Flavonols in Hops may help with gout, as they can reduce uric acid levels.

11) Enhances The Skin – By reducing inflammation, Hops can improve:

  • Acne
  • Allergic contact dermatitis
  • Eczema
  • Melanoma
  • Skin Aging
  • Skin Infections
  • Skin Structure (collagens, elastin, and fibrillins)
  • Sun Protection
  • Wound Healing

12) Hyaluronic acid – (HA, found in Hops) promotes collagen synthesis, repairs/hydrates tissues, and helps prevents wrinkle formation.

13) Has Antimicrobial Properties – Hops has anti-microbial activity which can help prevent food poisoning.

14) Acts On The Immune System – Hops has immunosuppressive effects and may help with arthritis.

15) Protects Bones – Hops may help prevent bone disease including osteoporosis.

16) Effects Sex Organs and Hormones – XN can reduce growth of tissue in endometriosis. Hops can inhibit aromatase, an enzyme that converts androstenedione and estrone to estrogen. XN inhibits bone resorption (osteoclastogenesis) and collagen loss.

17) Helps With Thyroid Health – XN can stimulate the uptake of iodide in thyroid cells. XN can also reduce T4 levels.

NEWYOU Hops Beer CBD

Today, these two wonder plants are proving they have a lot more to offer than their noteworthy contributions to a buzz. And, although Hops like Cannabis contains CBD (Cannabinoid), a well-known non-psychoactive compound that naturally occurs in that plant and may offer some relief from:

  • Inflammation
  • Pain
  • Anxiety
  • Seizures
  • Sleep problems
  • And many other health issues

Additionally, there are other terpenes and phytonutrients in Hops that are equally as therapeutic in supporting the Endocannabinoid System.

Here are just a few of the ADDITIONAL Cannabis ingredients used in NEWYOU CBD products…

XANTHOHUMOL – An Antioxidant Powerhouse!

When it comes to antioxidant properties, it appears grapes don’t hold a candle to Hops thanks to a powerful prenylated flavonoid called xanthohumol. This amazing phytonutrient is said to be 200 times stronger than the highly regarded antioxidant resveratrol found in red wine.

Impressive for sure, but not many people realize Hops’ polyphenol activity is also higher than that of green tea according to some reports. Beyond being a powerful antioxidant, recent research on xanthohumol at Oregon State University shows it can “lower cholesterol, blood sugar and help prevent weight gain.”

Also, noteworthy research suggests xanthohumol has strong cancer fighting and HIV inhibiting properties, as well as neuroprotective benefits.

HUMULENE – Does a Body Good

When people think of Cannabis, they think of getting the “munchies”. It’s true that certain phytocannabinoids (THC and CBG) act as appetite stimulants. However, there are terpenes in Hops like Humulene that can actually suppress appetite.

Numerous studies have shown that Humulene significantly reduces hunger, which could make it appealing for those looking to lose a few pounds. Humulene also contains strong anti-inflammatory properties and may be beneficial in reducing systemic inflammation as noted in a 2007 study published in the European Journal of Pharmacology. This particular research found Humulene to be as effective as a popular steroidal anti-inflammatory called dexamethasone.

Used in Chinese medicine for thousands of years, Humulene has a proven record of health benefits for a wide variety of issues.

8-PRENYLNARINGENIN (8-PN) – A Woman’s Best Friend

Another prenylated flavonoid found in Hops, 8-PN may offer a natural solution for women who are going through symptoms associated with menopause like hot flashes, low libido, moodiness and insomnia resulting from a decline in estrogen levels.

It’s one of the most potent phytoestrogens found to date, 50 times more potent than genistein in soy, and research indicates it helps women with relief from many menopausal symptoms.

Research on this incredible flavonoid shows it also has strong anti-diabetic potential and may play an important role in protecting against osteoporosis and certain cancers.

BETA-CARYOPHYLLENE – A Cannabinoid by Another Name

Beta-Caryophyllene, derived from Hops, is getting a lot of attention lately because of research showing its powerful benefits as an anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antimicrobial compound and much, much more.

Simply google the benefits of Beta-Caryophyllene and you’ll see dozens of potential benefits that range from longevity to cardiovascular health. It’s a terpene, but researchers suggest it should be classified as a Cannabinoid because its properties are extremely similar.

Beta-Caryophyllene has been shown to specifically bind to the CB2 receptor, one of the main Cannabinoid receptors in the body’s Endocannabinoid System.

CAUTION – There Are “BREWSKI” Limitations!

While it would be nice to “drink in” all the benefits of Hops in a 6-pack of your favorite beer, unfortunately many of these powerful compounds are lost during the brewing process…

Americans spend big bucks on taking care of their pets, from…

  • Veterinary services,
  • Grooming, to
  • High-quality food and treats.

It’s a Whopping $60 Billion Market Each Year!

We love our pets, and we love giving them lots of TLC, “Tender Loving Care”.

So, let’s explore why Pet Owners are now enthusiastically looking at another important component to add to their pets’ health and well-being – CBD.

by Greg Montoya

Why CBD for Pets? It Has Everything to do With the Endocannabinoid System (ECS)

Some people look like their pets, it’s funny and sometimes true. However, you share more in common with your pet than you might think. Like you, animals have an Endocannabinoid System. Therefore, they can benefit from Cannabinoids in many of the same ways that people do.

The Endocannabinoid System, often referred to with another three letter acronym, ECS, is one of the most important physiologic systems involved in establishing and maintaining human health. Endocannabinoids and their receptors (CB1 Nervous System and CB2 Immune System) are found throughout the body. These include the brain, organs, connective tissues, glands, and immune cells.

With receptors in so many places in the body, research shows they play a significant role in regulating many bodily functions in you and your pet like:

  • Sleep
  • Weight loss
  • Mood
  • Appetite
  • Immunity
  • Pain
  • Cognition
  • And more!

So, when your pet is feeling anxious or has some aging aches and pains just like you, CBD may help them like it helps you.

What the Science Says

Animals continue to suffer from many of the same health issues that we do like anxiety, pain, skin sensitivity, seizures, obesity and more. While most pet owners treat their pets like family, many of them have no idea that their pets can benefit from CBD.

Emerging research shows it can! According to one on-going study being done at UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine, Phytocannabinoids like CBD can reduce anxiety, pain, and seizure disorders, as well as reduce aggression.

Another clinical study completed at Cornell and submitted to the 2017 American College of Veterinary Surgeons Summit, indicated that as little as 2 mgs of CBD oil twice daily increased the comfort and activity in dogs with osteoarthritis.

So, when it comes to CBD and your pets, the science is welcomed news.

Potential Benefits of CBD for Pets:

  • Anxiety – CBD is thought to ease nervousness and provide calmness.
  • Pain – Studies have shown that CBD helps reduce joint inflammation which relieves osteoarthritis aches and pains in pets.
  • Skin Sensitivity – CBD may help with noses, paw pads and toe sores which can get irritated, dry, and sensitive.
  • Seizures – CBD may help prevent nerves in the brain from firing too much by lowering the excessive number of electrolytes believed to have a role in seizure conditions.
  • Sleep – Chronic pain, environmental stress and anxiety can all have negative impacts on your pet’s ability to sleep. As with people, CBD may also help your Furry Friends with getting to sleep.
